Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese (or grated parmesan cheese)
  • ⅔ cup almond or oat flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Grease a large baking sheet lightly with a thin layer of oil or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Steam Broccoli: Steam the broccoli florets for about 5 minutes until tender. Then immediately rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process and prevent over-softening. Drain the broccoli thoroughly using a strainer or towels to remove excess moisture.
  3. Chop Broccoli: Using a food processor with the “S” blade, pulse the broccoli until finely chopped. If you don’t have a food processor, finely chop the cooked broccoli by hand.
  4. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the finely chopped broccoli with the eggs, onion powder, grated cheese, almond or oat flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and sea salt. Mix thoroughly to create a uniform batter.
  5. Shape Tots: Using a heaping tablespoon or small cookie scoop, portion out the broccoli mixture into small balls. Gently press each ball to form the classic tot shape and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each tot.
  6. Bake: Bake the broccoli tots in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crisp on top. Flip the tots halfway through baking to ensure even browning. Once done, remove from the oven and serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup or ranch dressing.

Notes

  • Ensure the broccoli is very well drained to avoid soggy tots.
  • You can substitute cheddar with parmesan cheese or your preferred cheese for different flavor variations.
  • For a nut-free version, use oat flour instead of almond flour.
  • These tots reheat well in an air fryer or oven to retain crispiness.
  • Serve as a healthy snack, appetizer, or side dish.
