Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 and ½ cups (135g) Rice Chex® cereal
  • ⅔ cup (134g) sprinkles
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, cut into 8 slices
  • 8 ounces (227g) high-quality white chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: Pour the Rice Chex cereal into a large bowl and set aside to make coating easier later.
  2. Melt the Chocolate Mixture: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and white chocolate together, stirring constantly until smooth and fully melted. Add almond and vanilla extracts and stir to combine. Remove the pan from heat immediately to avoid burning.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted mixture over the cereal in the large bowl. Gently stir until every piece of cereal is evenly coated with the chocolate butter mixture.
  4. Add Sprinkles: Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag or container with a tight-fitting lid. Add the sprinkles, then shake or toss until the sprinkles are evenly mixed throughout the coated cereal.
  5. Dust with Powdered Sugar: Add the powdered sugar into the bag or container with the cereal and sprinkles. Shake or toss again until the cereal mix is thoroughly coated in powdered sugar for a sweet finish.
  6. Cool and Store: Spread the finished puppy chow onto a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper and allow it to cool completely. Discard any excess powdered sugar at the bottom. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week, maintaining freshness.

Notes

  • Use high-quality white chocolate for the best flavor and smooth texture.
  • Be sure to melt the chocolate and butter mixture over low heat to prevent scorching.
  • You can swap sprinkles with mini chocolate chips or crushed nuts for variety.
  • Store the puppy chow in an airtight container to keep it crunchy and fresh up to 7 days.
  • If you want a gluten-free version, ensure to use gluten-free Rice Chex cereal.
