These Cheesy Turkey Sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or meal featuring tender turkey slices layered on sweet Hawaiian rolls with cranberry sauce, mayo, and plenty of melted mozzarella cheese, all brushed with a garlic butter poppy seed topping and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Slider Base

  • 1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls, sliced in half
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup cranberry sauce
  • 12 deli white turkey meat slices (or shredded leftover turkey meat)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Buttery Topping

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
  2. Prepare Pan: Line a 9×9-inch pan with aluminum foil and lightly spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Set aside.
  3. Slice Rolls: Using a long serrated knife, carefully slice the Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally, but do not separate the individual rolls; keep them attached.
  4. Assemble Base Layer: Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared pan. Spread the mayonnaise evenly over the bottom layer, then spread the cranberry sauce on top of the mayo.
  5. Add Cheese: Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the cranberry sauce layer.
  6. Layer Turkey: Evenly distribute the turkey slices on top of the cheese layer.
  7. Top Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the turkey.
  8. Add Top Buns: Carefully place the top half of the rolls over the assembled ingredients and press down slightly to compact.
  9. Prepare Butter Mixture: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter on high for about 1 minute until liquefied.
  10. Mix Seasoning: Whisk in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the melted butter to combine well.
  11. Brush Butter: Drizzle and brush the garlic butter mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
  12. Sprinkle Poppy Seeds: Sprinkle the poppy seeds over the buttered tops of the slider rolls.
  13. Bake Covered: Cover the pan loosely with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the cheese has fully melted.
  14. Brown Tops: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the tops of the sliders are slightly golden brown.
  15. Rest and Serve: Take the sliders out of the oven and allow them to cool for 5-10 minutes. Slice into individual sliders and serve warm, optionally with gravy for dipping.

Notes

  • Using leftover turkey or deli slices works well for a quick option.
  • Make sure not to separate the rolls during slicing to keep them connected for easy baking.
  • You can substitute mozzarella with a different melting cheese like provolone or cheddar if preferred.
  • For a lower fat version, use light mayo and reduce butter amount or use a butter substitute.
  • Sliders are best enjoyed warm right after baking for melty cheese and soft rolls.
  • Adding a side of gravy or cranberry mayo dip complements the flavors beautifully.
