Strawberries
- 12 medium to large strawberries
Filling
- 12 oz whipped cream cheese
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp lemon zest
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Toppings
- 1 tbsp graham cracker crumbs
- 1 tbsp sprinkles
- Prepare Strawberries: Wash and dry the strawberries thoroughly. Using a sharp paring knife, slice each strawberry in half lengthwise, leaving the stems attached for presentation.
- Score the Center: With the same paring knife, lightly score a triangle shape in the center of each strawberry half. This will serve as a guide for hollowing out the center.
- Hollow the Strawberries: Using a small spoon or melon baller, gently remove a small portion from inside the scored triangle to create space for the filling.
- Drain Strawberries: Place the prepared strawberry halves cut-side down on paper towels and let them drain for a couple of minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Arrange Strawberries: Lay the strawberry halves on a deviled egg platter or serving dish, cut side up, ready for stuffing.
- Make Filling: In a medium or large bowl, combine the whipped cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon zest, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is very smooth and creamy.
- Fill Strawberries: Transfer the cream cheese mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large tip, or use a large resealable plastic bag with a small corner cut off. Pipe the filling generously into the hollowed centers of each strawberry half.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle each deviled strawberry with graham cracker crumbs and colorful sprinkles. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Chilling the cream cheese before mixing helps achieve a smoother filling.
- Use fresh, firm strawberries for best results to avoid sogginess.
- These can be made a few hours ahead and refrigerated, but add garnishes just before serving to maintain crispness.
- For an adult twist, a small drizzle of balsamic glaze pairs well with these dessert bites.
