The casserole is topped with the original cinnamon roll frosting for extra sweetness and decadence.

Ingredients

Scale

Casserole

  • 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each – 351 grams or 12 oz)
  • ¼ cup salted butter (melted)
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping

  • Frosting from cinnamon roll packages (reserved)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Add the melted butter into the dish or briefly place a stick of butter in the oven to melt directly in the dish.
  2. Prepare cinnamon rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from their packaging, saving the accompanying frosting packets for later use.
  3. Cut and arrange rolls: Cut each cinnamon roll into approximately ¾-inch pieces and spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Make egg mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until completely blended and smooth.
  5. Combine and bake: Pour the egg and syrup mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes until the casserole is puffed and turns a light golden brown color.
  6. Cool and add frosting: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Drizzle the saved frosting over the top of the casserole and serve warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to whisk the eggs thoroughly with the other liquid ingredients to ensure even cooking and texture.
  • Use fresh refrigerated cinnamon rolls for best puffing and texture.
  • If you prefer extra gooeyness, bake for the shorter time range and check for doneness.
  • Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving so it sets properly and is easier to cut.
  • This dish reheats well in the microwave or oven for leftovers.
