Ingredients

Scale

Meat Sauce

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 (32 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce

Cheese Mixture

  • 32 ounces cottage cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

Others

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients and preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). This preparation ensures everything is ready for assembly.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring frequently, until browned and crumbly, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain excess grease to keep the dish from being too greasy. Stir in the spaghetti sauce and allow to simmer for 5 minutes to blend flavors.
  3. Mix Cheese Layer: In a large bowl, combine the cottage cheese, 2 cups of shredded mozzarella, eggs, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Assemble Lasagna: Spread 3/4 cup of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer 3 uncooked lasagna noodles on top, followed by 1 3/4 cups of the cheese mixture and 1/4 cup of sauce. Repeat these layers once more, then top with the remaining 3 noodles. Spread the remaining sauce over the top, then sprinkle with the remaining shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Pour 1/2 cup of water along the edges of the dish to help the noodles cook properly. Cover tightly with aluminum foil to retain moisture.
  5. Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake covered for 45 minutes. Then uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the cheese topping slightly and thicken the sauce.
  6. Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes after baking to set, making it easier to cut and serve. Enjoy your warm, flavorful lasagna!

Notes

  • Using lean ground beef helps reduce the fat content while keeping the flavor rich.
  • Dried parsley adds a nice herbal flavor; fresh parsley can be substituted if preferred.
  • Pouring water around the edges aids in softening the noodles during baking.
  • Allowing the lasagna to rest before serving helps with easier slicing and better texture.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with sautéed vegetables or plant-based meat alternatives.
  • Make sure to cover the dish tightly with foil to prevent the cheese from drying out during baking.
