Brownies
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
- 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Frosting
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
- 2–4 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- Prepare the baking dish and oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Coat an 8-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper and lightly spray again to prevent sticking.
- Melt butter and mix wet ingredients: Melt the unsalted butter in the microwave. Transfer to a large bowl and stir in granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and coffee extract or instant coffee until fully combined.
- Add dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add these dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until the batter is smooth and well combined.
- Bake the brownies: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow brownies to cool completely before frosting.
- Prepare the coffee frosting: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream. In a separate bowl, beat the unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing thoroughly.
- Combine frosting ingredients: Slowly blend the coffee-infused cream into the butter and powdered sugar mixture. Add more cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, as needed to achieve your desired smooth and spreadable consistency.
- Frost the brownies: Generously spread the coffee frosting over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and serve for an indulgent coffee-chocolate treat.
Notes
- Ensure the brownies are completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
- If you prefer a stronger coffee flavor, increase the coffee extract or instant coffee slightly in the brownie batter and frosting.
- Use parchment paper for easy removal of brownies from the baking dish.
- Adjust the amount of heavy cream in the frosting to achieve your preferred consistency.
- Store frosted brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
