Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Seasoning

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Beans and Salsa

  • 1 can refried beans
  • 1 cup salsa

Other Ingredients

  • 2 cups tortilla chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to get it ready for baking the taco layers.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned and no longer pink, stirring occasionally.
  3. Season Beef: Add the taco seasoning packet along with water as directed on the seasoning package, then simmer the beef mixture for 5 minutes to develop flavor.
  4. Layer Beans: Spread the refried beans evenly in the bottom of a baking dish to form the first layer of the bake.
  5. Layer Beef: Carefully spoon and spread the cooked and seasoned ground beef over the beans layer to create the second layer.
  6. Add Salsa: Pour the salsa evenly on top of the beef layer to add moisture and spice.
  7. Add Chips: Sprinkle a layer of tortilla chips over the salsa, offering a crunchy texture.
  8. Top with Cheese: Generously sprinkle shredded cheese over the tortilla chips for a melty, cheesy finish.
  9. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and top with dollops of sour cream and chopped green onions before serving to enhance flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • You can use any cheese blend you prefer, such as cheddar or Mexican blend.
  • For a spicier dish, use a hotter salsa or add jalapeños.
  • Vegetarian option: Substitute ground beef with cooked lentils or a meatless ground beef alternative.
  • Make sure to layer evenly to ensure each bite has a balanced flavor.
  • Serve with additional tortilla chips or a side salad for a complete meal.
