Ingredients

Scale

Brown Sugar Simple Syrup

  • ¼ cup dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup water

Tapioca Pearls

  • ¾ cup tapioca balls
  • 4 cups water (for boiling)

Matcha Tea

  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • ⅔ cup cold filtered water

Drink Assembly

  • 2 cups ice
  • 1 ½ cups oat milk

Instructions

  1. Make Brown Sugar Simple Syrup: Boil ¼ cup water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in ¼ cup dark brown sugar until fully dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Cook Tapioca Balls: Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium pot. Add ¾ cup tapioca balls and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Once cooked, drain the tapioca balls and transfer them to a bowl. Pour the brown sugar simple syrup over the tapioca pearls and stir gently. Allow to cool until warm to enhance flavor absorption.
  3. Prepare Matcha: In an airtight container, combine 2 teaspoons matcha powder with ⅔ cup cold filtered water. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the matcha is well mixed and slightly frothy.
  4. Assemble the Drink: Divide the cooked tapioca balls along with the infused syrup evenly between two glasses. Add 1 cup of ice to each glass. Pour ¾ cup oat milk into each. Slowly pour the prepared matcha over the milk layer in each glass for a beautiful layered effect. Stir gently before drinking to enjoy the full blend of flavors.

Notes

  • Use high-quality matcha powder for the best flavor and vibrant green color.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the amount of brown sugar syrup according to preference.
  • Tapioca pearls are best consumed fresh for optimal chewiness.
  • If oat milk is unavailable, alternative plant-based milks like almond or soy milk can be used.
  • Shake the matcha mixture vigorously to avoid clumps and ensure a smooth texture.
