Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (preferably lean)
- 1 oz packet taco seasoning (premium brand)
- 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes and green chiles, undrained
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (preferably aged for richer flavor)
- 8 oz bottle premium Ranch dressing
- 5 packs of 15-count frozen phyllo tart shells
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350ºF to prepare for baking the taco bites later.
- Cook Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until it’s fully cooked and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat to keep the filling less greasy.
- Add Seasoning: Stir in the taco seasoning packet into the cooked beef, then add the entire can of diced tomatoes and green chiles with their juices. Mix thoroughly and let everything simmer gently for 5 minutes to develop flavor, then remove from heat.
- Prepare Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese with the Ranch dressing. Next, fold this creamy mixture into the cooked taco meat until evenly incorporated.
- Assemble Tarts: Carefully spoon the taco meat and cheese mixture into each frozen phyllo tart shell. If you are not baking immediately, you can freeze the assembled tart shells for later use at this stage.
- Bake: Place the filled tart shells on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes. If starting from frozen, add an extra 2-3 minutes to ensure they heat through thoroughly and the cheese melts nicely.
Notes
- Make sure to drain excess fat after browning the beef to avoid greasy bites.
- You can substitute the premium Ranch dressing with a low-fat version for a lighter option.
- The phyllo tart shells should be kept frozen until you’re ready to fill and bake for best texture.
- If freezing assembled tarts, bake directly from frozen adding extra time as needed.
- For extra spice, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
