Ingredients

Scale

Turkey Avocado Patties

  • 1 lb ground turkey (thigh meat preferred)
  • 1 large ripe avocado, diced
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 tsp ground coriander seed
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 tsp sea salt (for babies older than 12 months)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper (for babies older than 12 months)
  • Fat for frying (oil, ghee, butter, or animal fat)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Dice the onion and avocado, and mince the garlic to get all your fresh ingredients ready for mixing.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground turkey, egg, diced avocado, onion, garlic, lemon juice, ground coriander, sea salt, and black pepper. Be careful not to overmix, as overworking the mixture will make it too soft and difficult to form patties.
  3. Form Mini Patties: Take about half a tablespoon of the mixture and shape it into a ball, then flatten it evenly with your palm or a spatula to ensure uniform cooking.
  4. Heat the Skillet: Preheat a skillet with your choice of fat (oil, ghee, butter, or animal fat). Make sure the pan and fat are hot enough so that the patties sizzle upon contact, but not so hot that they burn before cooking through.
  5. Fry the Patties: Place the patties carefully into the hot skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side until golden and fully cooked inside.
  6. Continue Cooking: Add more fat to the skillet as needed to prevent sticking and ensure even browning. Cook all patties in batches if necessary, serving warm.

Notes

  • For an egg-free version, you can substitute the egg with 2 tablespoons of flaxseed meal mixed with 4 tablespoons of water (let sit until gel-like).
  • Use thigh meat for juicier, more flavorful patties compared to lean breast meat.
  • The seasoning with salt and pepper is recommended only for babies older than 12 months.
  • Avoid overmixing the ingredients to prevent the patties from becoming mushy and hard to shape.
  • Ensure the patties are uniformly flat to guarantee even cooking throughout.
